Default Alot of newb questions

Hi, im trying to get into GuildWars but its just overwheling to me, especially the pvp and I have some questions.

I have Prophicies and Nightfall,

Im playing through the Nightfall Campaign with a W/Mo level 6 which I like, I need to get to level 12 for a quest, but its taking yonks lol, so what is a fast and fun way to level?

What is the end game like? I know nothing about this, what is it like when you get to 20?

The pvp is completely changed from when I played last year, its overwhelming and it confuses the hell out of me, is there an article or site or someone that can tell me what this is all about?

Is a warrior monk a good choice to make?

How do I get my Prophices character to Tyria?

Can anyone explain the arour system in the game? Its not like WoW at all.

Can anyone tell me what a good build for leveling my character is?

Should I complete the Prophices campaign before Nightfall then use the same character to complete nightfall?

Can I get my Nightfall character over to Prohpices, and how?

I know this is alot of questions but im really trying to get into the game, and I would love if someone could help,

thanks!

~you can get to proph from nightfall by taking quests in istan-see guild wiki
~you can get info on the different types of pvp and builds as well from wiki
~the armour system is well defined on the wiki

~so in answer to just about all your questions...use the search on the wiki

Do quests, but always clear the way the quest takes you. The quest rewards plus the kills will yield nice XP, and you will have most fun this way, as it won't feel like grind. Other techniques may be faster, but trust me - even if you take levelling slowly, you'll reach lvl 20 soon enough.

The game only really starts at lvl 20. Essentially, your group of 8 will be fighting groups of enemies of levels 20-28. Actually, the feeling will not be so much different from what it feels now. However, the real challenge is to adapt your character to the situation at hand. One mission will require heavy firepower, favouring elementalists, while another will need to shut down enemies, making mesmer allies a necessity. Also, the game will become more demanding concept-wise. Your brute force will be limited, and you will need to learn how to interrupt the enemies when they use the most dangerous skills and how do properly isolate groups of enemies (You won't get past gates of Pain otherwise ). The importance of breaking stances, removing enchantments and similar also gain in importance. Ideally, you'll switch your skills after every battle to adapt to the new situation.

It is a common choice, usually considered the newbie combo. However, this just reflects that the choice is very common. Any class combination can make for a good and effective character. But don't worry - soon, you'll reach the point when you can change your secondary class at will. Remember: at first, some skills will work (like "Mending"), but later in the game, you'll have to abandon them for others that require more skill to use, but have greater effects.

OK, nice and slow, it'll go. First, your Prophecies and Nightfall accounts need to be "merged" - one account, six character slots, not two accounts with four slots each.
After that, you can travel from one continent to another. First, the travel needs to be unlocked by completing a certain quest. The quests are not immediately available.
For a prophecies character, you'll need to reach the city of Lion's arch. There, you will find the quest giver for the quest that will unlock travel to Elona. Note that you may need some human help, as the quest will have you facing some high lvl foes, and the Lion's arch henchmen are low level and of little use there. After the quest is complete, you will be taken to Kamadan. From then on, you will be able to travel between the continents simply by clicking the boat icon on the map screen and selecting the target continent.
Note that some parts of each chapter are limited to native characters only (the tutorial areas and quests, and also some of the quests), so it usually pays to play through a campaign with a native character at least once.

Can anyone explain the arour system in the game? Its not like WoW at all.
Each class has a maximum armor level (60-80). The armor level determines how much damage you take from a hit/spell (unlike for example Diablo II, attacks always hit, but the amount of damage differs radically). The system is a bit complex, but the base rule of thumb is: armor level 60 means you take as much damage as the skill icon shows (100% damage), and increasing/decreasing armor by 40 will result in halving/doubling the damage taken.
Also note that different armors work differently against different damage types. For example, a paragon and a warrior both have basic armor of 80. However, the warrior's armor will also always have an additional 20 armor against physical damage, allowing the warrior to survive melee much better than a paragon. Similarly, a ranger may have armor 70, but also gets a bonus of 30 to elemental damage (meaning that he will be tougher to usually ranged elemental damage than a warrior, but still significantly weaker against melee).
You will soon find out that these things make a hell of a lot of a difference in the game. Characters with armor 60 have nothing to do in melee but die

Go to the warrior subforum, and look at the classic builds.

Depends on taste, but I would suggest first playing through all with one character, and then trying the other one to see the parts that you missed. It's not much, but it does make for a different experience. The native character will get the whole story, while the foreign character will find some of the things already done.

Boy...that's a load of questions. Maybe a good place to start is Guildwiki...it's very informative for these kinds of questions. W/mo is a decent way to start to learn the game.

sunspear rank (leveling up in Nightfall)

http://gw.gamewikis.org/wiki/Sunspear_rank

In Nightfall, make sure that whenever you leave a town/outpost...to visit the NPC by the resurrection shrine (usually right outside a door as you leave the town) and pick up the bounty to gain sunspear rank by killing certain enemies in an area. This helps you level up. See above sunspear rank address.

Guildwiki is incredibly helpful...check it out. Good luck and have fun!

btw...Level 20 is the very beginning of where things will get really enjoyable for you.

Anybody is more than welcome to add to my answers....but

First off....if you are unsure about something your best resources to start are:

Guru
Guild Wiki

Both these sites have available information so that if you have any question that is unanswered or you want to read more into, check these places first.

If you are a low level and want to level up fast and are going through Nightfall, I would recommend taking the bounties from the guys at the shrines in the explorable areas. They will give you some type of Hunt which will double your XP if you kill an enemy of that type. If you end up buying XP scrolls from a Scroll Trader, you can add even more XP. Do those and do all those side quests (they give a good amount of XP for rewards) and you'll be at Lvl 20 in no time.

I don't think anybody is going to tell you because that is spoiling it for you. Just play it yourself and find out!

You can head over to the Gladiator Section here in the Forums if you are interested in getting started in the PvP world. That section is dedicated for PvP and there are plenty of people that would be more than happy to give you any advice, helpful tips, and point you in the right direction to get started in PvP. In a nutshell.....starting PvP from scratch is difficult. There are many ways you can go about it. You can play the PvE part of the game and as you progress through the game, you'll start unlocking stuff which you can use in PvP or you can dip right into PvP and use what you have and then unlock stuff as you go. The choice is yours. You can also always buy a PvP pack if you are going to mainly focus on PvP. Just an idea. If you have a good guild, find a guildie or some friends to help you practice and learn the ropes. There is a lot to learn to be successful in PvP (having a good build, communication, kiting, knowing when and under what circumstances to use specific skills, etc). All in all...it takes practice...and lots of it!

It is as good as any other class. Each class has its benefits and fallbacks for both PvE and PvP. I recommend to use a couple of your slots and make several different characters with a different profession, that way you'll be ready for anything.

Prophecies = Tyria
Factions = Cantha
Nightfall = Elona

If you have a Prophecies character.......it starts in Tyria. If you have a character from one campaign that you want to bring over from a different campaign (like a Nightfall character over to Prophecies)...then there are certain quests at a certain stage in the game that you can take to bring them over. If you do a search here in the Forums, you'll find countless threads asking about it.

Rather than explaining it in complexity, go to Guild Wiki and read up on it. Guild Wiki: Armor Rating If you want to know something in particular that it doesn't talk about, let me know. the armor system is nothing like WoW

Go to The Campfire section in the Forums and click on the specific profession you are after. A lot of people have sugested various builds to be used in all kinds of situations, including starting builds, farming builds, solo builds etc. Another place you can check is Guild Wiki. They have some pretty standard builds that mostly everyone knows and has been tested. It will at least give you a start on getting something together.

Either one is fine, but I personally would complete things in the order of Prophecies --> Factions ---> Nightfall. The reason is is because Nightfall ties some of the plot from Prophecies and Factions together. Though it isn't needed, I think more people got more enjoyment when they realized the connection.

As I said before, if you want to take a character from one campaign to another, there will be a quest that you can take at a certain point in the game that will take you to Tyria. In this case...you will need to complete the Nightfall quest "The Time is Nigh" and then take the quest "Terror in Tyria" from Deras Tenderlin in Kamadan.

If you need anything else, feel free to PM me in game anytime when I am online and I'll be more than happy to answer anything I can.

The PvE game doesn't change when you reach level 20. It stays consistent throughout the entire game--that is, primary quests and missions advance the storyline while side quests and challenge missions add some variety to the gameplay. I would say that the PvE game is distinct from the PvP game, with little crossover between the two. The difference between the gameplay at level 20 compared to level 6 is primarily in the difficulty of the gameplay and the incorporation of multiple and different strategies in how you play the game.

If this is the quest I'm thinking of, The Honorable General, you DON'T need to level to 12 at all. The requirement is either lvl 12 OR the Sunspear Rank of 2nd Spear, and the Sunspear rank is much easier to obtain. Please get into the habit of talking to the scouts at the resurrection shrines and accept the bounties they offer. This will be a big help later on in the game, and will help you level faster.

re: Armor

You can get armor in two ways in GW: trade items with an NPC "collector"--they're all over, talk to collectors, collectors are your friends! --OR you can craft armor in particular towns.

In WoW I believe, armor can drop for you that you can wear, or you can buy armor items at the auction house or whatever. The armor that you loot in GW, however, will NOT be wearable; instead, it may contain materials, runes and/or insignias which you could salvage in order to craft/improve your armor stats. Hope that's not too confusing.

Collectors armor is basic, but free, and many times higher than anything you can craft in the area you're in. Crafted armor is more expensive, you must provide materials and money... in Elona, you must apply insignias for armor bonuses; in Prophecies and Factions, though, armor comes with inherent insignias.
